As a City Councilor candidate for Ward 6, I would prioritize the following solutions to common issues in our ward and city:

Better Representation For the Ward as a Whole

• I will create opportunities for people to be heard and acknowledged by:

  • Holding town hall meetings, using translation services when needed

  • Allowing for public comment before council meetings

  • Having open hours for people to contact or meet with me

• The goal is to create an open space for others to talk about Quincy-related issues.

Clear and Accessible Communication

• Government workers can be difficult to get in contact with, and sometimes do not respond to communications.

• I will ensure that I am accessible and providing updates through various channels including:

  • Newsletter

  • Social Media

    • City of Quincy website

Traffic Safety and Improvements

• People need to travel in and out of Quincy without getting stuck in traffic.

• The high traffic on Hancock Street causes many drivers to use side streets instead, which is frustrating and poses a danger for pedestrians.

• I will look into options for improving traffic flow while maintaining safety on Hancock Street.

• Neponset Avenue is also a notable traffic area that I would work on.

Transparency

• There is a lack of transparency and clear communication in how the City Council does business.

• I will keep the people informed about what’s going on.​​

Accountability and Competency

• I will demonstrate measurable metrics of my performance including:

  • The number of requests

  • Data of recurring issues

• I will utilize the resources from the Massachusetts Municipal Association to apply good governance and open meeting/public records laws.​​​

Collaboration

• Ward 6 is not an isolated area — I will collaborate with Wards 3 and 5 to improve the quality of life for the surrounding communities.​​​​​

Long Island Bridge​

• I recognize this is a complex issue. This is what I have learned and found:

  • Quincy has spent ~10 years fighting Boston against rebuilding the Long Island bridge, citing traffic concerns and inadequate constructions plans​

    • A 2023 WBUR article mentions that Boston has been successful against Quincy's appeals during the permitting process, according to Chris Osgood, City of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's senior advisor for infrastructure.

    • The article also mentions Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch saying "I'm gonna do everything in my power to put roadblocks and obstacles in the way of Boston building that bridge."

  • Quincy has asked repeatedly Boston to use ferries to service Long Island.

    • A 2021 Navigation Impact Study by Boston's Public Works Department lays out the reasons why "as the sole vehicular route to Long Island, the bridge serves the needs of land transportation while allowing for the reasonable needs of navigation."

    • It also analyzes other project alternatives and summarizes their findings:​

      • Not rebuilding the bridge​

      • Using Ferries as the Sole Access

      • Replicating the original bridge

• I know that there is opposition to the bridge being rebuilt, with the concerns of increased traffic through Squantum. However, I would be in favor of rebuilding the bridge.

  • The amount of spending by Quincy​ continues to grow and contributes to the city's debt burden.

  • Collaborating with the City of Boston is a better use of resources and builds relationships.

  • More services would be available to those "struggling with homelessness, addiction and mental health issues" and improving our society as a whole.​​

Progress on Public Works

• Potholes are not only unsightly, but can cause damage to vehicles and create unsafe road conditions.

• I will work with DPW to fix potholes in a reasonable timeframe.​​​​​​​​​
